Hello Boys and Girls

Filed in: iPad, Music, Sonorasaurus

I’d like to introduce myself as the newest member to the Pajamahouse fold. I’ll be helping out with various marketing initiatives and trying to raise general awareness for the brand. If you have any interesting ideas or creative ways to promote Pajamahouse- I’m open.

I also mix records under the guise DJ Clever. So, it’s only appropriate that I use Sonorasaurus for that very reason. I put together a Dubstep mix today using Rex. It turned out okay, so I uploaded it to Mixcloud. I’ll continue to post more mixes as I get more familiar and comfortable with SR. Feel free to leave feedback on the mix, too.

Pirate Amnesty Sale

Posted By Russell
Filed in: iPad, iPhone, News, Sonorasaurus

Lately people have been inquiring about the status of Sonorasaurus for the iPhone and why it has not been updated for a long time and if we will be able to bring in the new features they desire.

A bit of history on Sonorasaurus – it was the second app our studio created. The project began because we wanted to create something interesting for the iPhone that could appeal to DJs in different ways. For those familiar with DJing it would be a great option in case their equipment failed. For those new to DJing it could be a way to experience the art form through emerging yet accessible technology.

After Sonorasaurus’ debut it was promptly pirated. Real sales for Sonorasaurus were pitiful and have remained so. After over a year of being available, units sold are still less than 1,000. This is in direct contrast to the number of pirated copies, at last count close to 200,000 before I became too disheartened to continue to keep a tally. Of course piracy is one of the realities of the world, but the degree we have experienced is constantly threatening to shut our doors.

Many people may have been thinking that we just lost interest in the iPhone version because of the added capabilities of the iPad and the dazzle of a new platform. The truth is we have wanted to work on Sonorasaurus. A lot. But frankly we cannot afford to work on it given our limited resources. Pajamahouse is a very very small studio.

Great things are planned for Sonorasaurus and Sonorasaurus Rex. We want to be able to bring them to you and at a much quicker rate. We have also been inspired by what Amanita did back in August with Machinarium.

So we are putting Sonorasaurus on sale for a while. If we get a good enough response we can move ahead with the updates we have planned and bring Sonorasaurus for iPhone up to date – starting with Retina Display and iPod Library Access. You can get the app for cheap now and the updates later for free.

Even if only 10% of the pirates pick up the app it will make a difference.

Our pirate amnesty sale begins now.

Update: There is a bit of discussion going on about this over at Palm Sounds. Feel free to join in and share your opinions: the-palm-sound.blogspot.com/2011/01/sonorasaurus-price-drops-as-part-of.html

We have come across some reviews today for Rex. One of which comes from DJ Hombre, a steady source of reliable thoughts, feedback and commentary here in our comments as well as our inboxes. Check out his comprehensive breakdown and review of Sonorasaurus Rex at his website here. He is doing a recording test with all the different DJ apps out there so we recommend following his posts over the coming weeks.

Secondly we have this video review from Youtube user RobProducertech.

And we want to take a moment to thank these two for reviewing the app and putting the information together. Thanks guys!

Sonorasaurus Rex & iPod Library Access

Posted By Russell
Filed in: iPad, News, Sonorasaurus

Just a quick announcement, and one we are very happy to make. We have finished and submitted update 2.2 for Sonorasaurus Rex and hopefully it will be available the same day OS4.2 is available for the iPad.

This update takes care of one of the biggest requests we have had to date. iPod library access. The changes to the iPad operating system in 4.2 make this feature possible. Of course there are other revisions, additions and requests to do in our library but they will have to be in a subsequent update. It was our goal with 2.2 to make sure that everyone had iPod access as soon as 4.2 was made available and did not want the development time on other features to push that back. However we did have time to deal with one specific bug. One that affected the playlists and adding songs from search results. For some users they would search and  add songs from the results but the wrong songs were appearing in the playlist (not the one they had dragged in).

And since we are on the subject of libraries, let us know what else you think the Sonorasaurus Rex library could use. With 2.2 and iPod access out of the way we need to firm up our list of library changes to make next time around.

New Studio Site

Posted By Russell

Welcome to the new Pajamahouse Studios website and web hub. This is going to be the central location for finding out about all our projects and developments. Up until recently we only had two main projects out in the universe, Sea Rascals and Sonorasaurus, but now with some of our new projects going into deeper development cycles we figured it would be a good time to consolidate everything.

So here is a brief explanation of what is happening. All of the info and posts (including your comments) from pajamahousestudios.com, searascals.com and sonorasaurus.com are being collected here. Pajamahouse.com is also a much simpler address than pajamahousestudios.com so we decided we like it better going forward.

Over the next few weeks we will also be adding in more tutorials for Sonorasaurus and Sonorasaurus Rex. And also with a better organized site we can add in a lot of the requested information better and a lot faster.

Feel free to give us your comments on the new site and changes or suggestions for going forward.

Sonorasaurus Rex Update 2.1.1

Posted By Russell
Filed in: iPad, Sonorasaurus

After the buggy weirdness of 2.1′s updating process we sent another version over to Apple, 2.1.1, to resolve the launch issue. This is now available in the App Store.

Now everyone can try out 2.1 properly and start recording their mixes right in Sonorasaurus Rex. If anyone has made or posted a mix please share it with us here. We would love to check them out!

Write Up!

Amid the chaos and frustration of 2.1 the latest issue of Computer Music was released to news stands. This specific issue is a special dedicated mostly to music apps across different mobile platforms. We were fortunate enough to be included in their showcase and the whole issue is pretty cool in general. Definitely try to get your hands on a copy. There are also some cool editorials on choosing headphones and a feature on different accessories for the iPad musician.

Rex 2.1 is now available

Apple has just approved Sonorasaurus Rex 2.1 for the iPad. You can grab it here, and existing users should now see it in their Updates window. Check it out!

Update: Some people have written in saying they have had issues with the update. There appears to be a bug within the updating process itself. Also others have encountered issues with the waveform pre-processing.

For those who have updated and are having problems we recommend trying the following:

1. Restart the iPad (long press on the Lock button)
2. If the above does not work, remove the app by long-pressing on the app, then tapping the ‘x’ button.
3. Reinstall the version 2.1 app.

We have submitted a bug fix to Apple in the form of version 2.1.1 and it should be available within a week. You may want to skip 2.1 update altogether and wait for that update if you already have Sonorasaurus Rex 2.0. So far these issues have not affected any of the new users we have spoken to.
